POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Visiting Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (Management)
College of Business (Online Programs)
Southern Illinois University Carbondale

The College of Business at SIU Carbondale is seeking one or more individuals to teach courses within the distance education, online undergraduate degree completion and online MBA programs within the following course topics. Each of these three-credit hour courses are at the undergraduate or master's level.

  1. Introduction to Management. Basic concepts of the administrative process are considered with emphasis on executive action to develop policy, direction, and control based on traditional and behavioral science approaches to decision making.
  2. Small Business Management. Identification of small business, its importance and relationship to the United States economy, and the opportunities and requirements unique to operation and management. Personal characteristics, interpersonal relationships, organizational systems, and decision-making processes are examined for their contribution to the success or failure of the firm.
  3. Financial Management. Provide a broad overview of basic concepts, principles, and recent innovations in financial management. Topics covered will include risk and return, valuation, capital budgeting, capital structure and cost of capital, dividend policy, financial planning, international financial management and corporate restructuring.
  4. Administrative Policy. Development of organizational strategies and policies within environmental and resource limitations. Emphasis upon the application and integration of basic principles from all areas of business by case problem analysis, simulation exercises, and group participation.
  5. Managerial and Organization Behavior. Case analyses of human problems in the business organization. Application of findings of behavioral science research to organization problems. Development of direction and leadership skills.
  6. Business Policy. Study of the development and evaluation of business strategies and policies as they relate to the overall performance of the firm within its environment. Knowledge of the functional areas of administration, available business data and analytical tools will be utilized in solving comprehensive business cases and simulation games.

Applicants must have earned a doctorate in a business or related discipline and have a minimum of two semesters of online teaching experience at an AACSB-accredited institution at the effective date of employment of 1/1/13, or possess a record of intellectual contributions that would qualify them as "Academically- or Professionally--Qualified" to teach at the masters level per the College of Business' most recent accreditation statement. This individual should be strongly committed to quality teaching and be able and willing to communicate with students and a teaching assistance through electronic communication.
