Title: Associate Director

Duties:

  1. Handle all day-to-day activities of the institute.
  2. Supervise all institute staff other than Director.
  3. Serve lead role as an administrator, personnel manager, budget chief, fiscal officer delegate, fund raiser, and public relations officer and other outreach efforts.
  4. Monitor, fulfill and recommend actions on various budget and fiscal issues regarding the institute's state, grant and endowment accounts.
  5. Develop the programmatic and other goals of the institute with the director and implement them accordingly.
  6. Make independent decisions when necessary and use judgment to involve superior. Serves as lead budget officer.
  7. Play a lead role in researching, evaluating and recommending programs, projects and speakers.
  8. Design and implement marketing and communication strategies for institute events and initiatives.
  9. In collaboration with the SIU Foundation, develop and implement an action plan for institute fundraising. Synthesize pertinent information in developing cultivation strategies. Make fundraising trips and write funding proposals and document outcomes.
  10. Plan, implement and participate in institute programs, lectures and events. Includes budgeting, marketing, media and public relations and all logistical planning and other related details.
  11. Maintain regular contact with University deans, department chairs, faculty, staff and student leaders.
  12. Travel regularly to Springfield, Chicago and other centers of population to represent the institute, fund raise and build on outreach initiatives with government, media and non-governmental and private organizations.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Organizational Relationship: This position reports to the Director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and at least five years of professional work experience in a setting related to public policy, government and politics. Must demonstrate excellent managerial and organizational skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills. A strong understanding of policy issues at the state and national levels is required.

Preferred Qualifications: A proven ability to manage budgets, set priorities and develop specific fiscal management recommendations; Ability to successfully conduct major fund raising campaigns; Supervisory experience.

Effective Date of Appointment: As soon as possible.
