Academic Advisors I

Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks applicants for full-time Academic Advisor I positions. These are 12-month, term appointments with renewal contingent on job performance, programmatic need, and available funding. Academic advisors guide and mentor students toward degree completion by establishing a unique relationship with each student that focuses on interests, abilities, and career goals. Advisors actively assist students in understanding and navigating university and college admission and degree requirements, and in developing an effective educational plan. Each Academic Advisor will report to a Chief Academic Advisor from one of the University's Academic Colleges, or our office of Exploratory Student Advisement. Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree is required. Applicants must have experience within a postsecondary environment such as academic advising, mentoring, counseling undergraduate students, or closely related experience. Applicants must also have experience using basic Microsoft Office programs, as well as strong written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with experience using student information systems such as Banner, Student Success Collaborative – Campus (SSC-Campus), or SalukiNet are preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include experience with degree audit systems such as Degree Works; experience working collaboratively, cooperatively, and effectively with diverse populations; and strong oral communication skills. Bi-lingual applicants are preferred.
