Nominations and applications are being accepted for the position of Director, University Honors Program (UHP) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This full-time, term, administrative/professional appointment reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor. This position is an opportunity for a dynamic, creative individual to guide a well-established program to further growth and prominence.

Responsibilities: The Director of the UHP is responsible for leading, promoting, and enhancing the university-wide program. Duties include:

  1. Serve as chief fiscal and academic officer of the UHP.
  2. Provide leadership in the recruitment, retention, mentoring, advisement, and placement of student in the UHP.
  3. Provide active leadership in support of the University’s core diversity and inclusion missions.
  4. Review, assess, and oversee the UHP curriculum and coordinate the instruction of UHP courses with faculty and chairs/directors across campus.
  5. Review regularly the UHP requirements, policy, and procedures with the UHP Advisory Council (made up of one faculty member from each undergraduate college, appointed for a two-year term by the dean of each college).
  6. Evaluate independent study projects for UHP credit, including senior honors theses, departmental honors theses, and individual study projects.
  7. Oversee the Charles D. Tenney Distinguished Lecture Series, the Michael and Nancy Glassman UHP Lecture Series, and the UHP Lecture Series.
  8. Supervise the administration of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards (ONCA).
  9. Administer the three scholarship of the UHP:
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: This is an internal-to-SIU Carbondale search. Applicants must have academic credentials commensurate with an appointment with tenure at the rank of associate professor of full professor in an academic unit at SIU Carbondale. Applicants must have experience in curricular or program development.
