Description of Positions: The Associate Provost for Academic Programs (APAP), Southern Illinois University Carbondale, invites applicants for five (5) full-time Academic Advisor I positions. These are 12-month, term, fiscal-basis appointments, renewable contingent on job performance and available funding. These positions assist students in gaining a basic understanding of university and college admission and degree requirements, as well as policies and processes that need to be followed/completed by the student (e.g. math placement testing, registration, applying for graduation). These positions establish relationships that focus on each student’s interests, abilities, and values so as to facilitate career decision-making during the academic advisement process. Students are taught to utilize the technologies available to develop educational plans that relates to their choice of degree program and to track compliance and progress towards degree. Advisors will report to Chief Academic Advisors from one or more of the following units: College of Applied Sciences and Arts, College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, and Exploratory Student Advisement.

Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree is required. Applicants must have experience within a postsecondary environment such as academic advising, mentoring, counseling undergraduate students, or closely related experience. Applicants must also have experience using basic Microsoft Office programs, as well as strong written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with experience using student information systems such as Banner, Student Success Collaborative – Campus (SSC-Campus), or SalukiNet are preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include experience with degree audit systems such as Degree Works; experience working collaboratively, cooperatively, and effectively with diverse populations; and strong oral communication skills. Bi-lingual applicants are preferred.
