Communications Specialist: Southern Illinois University Carbondale Office of Undergraduate Admissions seeks a Communications Specialist. This position provides oversight and management of Undergraduate Admissions communications to prospective and current students using the Customer Relationship Management system (CRM). This position works closely with the offices of Undergraduate Admissions, University Communications, Financial Aid, New Student Programs, University Housing, International Programs and Services, and the Graduate School. This position also provides oversight and management of academic unit communications, including College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Applied Sciences and Arts, College of Business, College of Education and Human Services, College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts, College of Mass Communications and Media Arts, College of Science, and University College.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Specialist reports to the Associate Director, Operations and will be a member of a communications team responsible for establishing clear, consistent messages; flow charting communications to prospective students, assuring brand compliance, managing/documenting communications and executing all aspects of university communications to prospective and current students. The Communication Specialist also serves as a liaison with internal offices and constituents, including students, faculty and staff.

This position must make decisions independently, based upon the policies set by the SIU Board of Trustees. The position must act without direct supervision and will act as a decision maker regarding communications sent through the CRM. This position must exercise consistent discretion and judgment in dealing with personal data about individuals that must be held in the strictest confidence and adhere to FERPA regulations. This position must interact with the Director of Admissions and/or Associate Directors and must understand administrative policies, admissions policies, academic standards, branding guidelines, etc.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, computer literacy, proven excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Demonstrated positive work ethic. Two years’ experience and knowledge of related computing programs, such as use of Banner or another student information system, customer relationship management technology, Geographical Information Systems programs, statistical programs, or advanced data processing and management.

Preferred Qualifications: Graduate of SIU Carbondale; involvement as a student at SIU Carbondale (through student organizations, student employment or other student activities); post-graduate involvement with SIU through alumni activities or city/university activities; strong writing skills as indicated in the cover letter and resume; one year of experience managing and developing communication to student or customer populations; and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
