Assistant Professor (Sustainability)
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Southern Illinois University Carbondale

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at SIU Carbondale invites applications for a full-time, continuing, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Environmental Engineering with a focus on sustainability. SIU Carbondale is located in Carbondale, Illinois and enrolls approximately 14,000 students. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is one of four departments within the College of Engineering. The Department offers Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS) and Master of Engineering (ME) degrees in Civil Engineering. A Ph.D. in Engineering Science is offered through the College. The BS in Civil Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. The Department has 11 faculty members, approximately 160 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students.

Requirements:

• Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and an earned doctorate in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
• Applicants must have a demonstrated potential for high quality research and teaching with research documented by publications.
• Special consideration will be given to applicants with professional experience.
• Professional engineer licensure is desirable and will be required for tenure.

Duties and Responsibilities: The person selected for the position will:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses as assigned by the department chair.
• Actively participate in the senior design course.
• Develop an externally funded research program in her/his area of research. The department provides support and excellent opportunities for the development of new faculty.
• Carry out research and supervise the work of M.S., M.E., and Ph.D. students.
• Actively participate in scholarly activities by publishing the results of her/his research in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
• Collaborate with other faculty on research and professional development activities.
• Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession. This includes participation in international and national professional society activities.

Effective Date: Anticipated starting date is August 16, 2019.
