Assistant Professor (Yeast Genetics and Physiology)

The College of Science and the Fermentation Science Institute at SIU Carbondale seek applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor specializing in yeast physiology and genetics. This is a joint appointment in the Departments of Microbiology (tenure home) and Plant Biology and in the Fermentation Science Institute, with percentage of appointment based on the candidate's research expertise and interests. Departments of the Colleges offer Ph.D., M.S., B.S. and B.A. degrees in various specializations.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in the Life Sciences or a closely related field is required, with specialty area related to fermentation or biotechnology, including, but not limited to, pharmaceutical production, biofuel production, metabolic pathway engineering, malting and brewing science, enology, distillation science, and food science. Applicants must have significant research experience in yeast physiology and genetics, must perform research related to fermentation or biotechnology, and must have the potential to develop an externally-funded research program. Evidence of research excellence documented through publications and/or funding is required. Applicants must have the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses. Postdoctoral research experience is a plus factor.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally-funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, and teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that will be of interest to students across the departments and fermentation institute. The position will work closely with units to advance their missions of excellence in teaching and research and will participate in outreach activities with regional industries appropriate to the candidate's research interests.
