Academic Advisor (Pre-Health Majors)

The College of Science at Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications for a full-time position in the College of Science Advisement Office. This is a 12 month term position with reappointment upon approval.

Responsibilities: The advisor provides guidance, counseling and information in the career exploration and planning process for undergraduate pre-health professions students who intend to apply to professional programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, etc. The advisor writes summary letters of evaluation to students who are applying to dental, medical, optometry, podiatry and veterinary schools. This position serves as a staff sponsor to the Pre-Health Professions Association RSO. With College of Science students, advisement includes all major and graduation requirements. The advisor maintains confidential files and a database of interviewees for the health pre-professions program. Statistical analysis and reports for the pre-health majors program are provided to the Dean annually.


  1. A Master’s degree or equivalent level, including coursework in a life science, physical science, or health related field.
  2. One (1) year of experience in an advisement office and/or clinical setting.

Effective Date of Appointment: 24 April 2017
