Lecturer (Full-Time) (Art Education)

Position: Lecturer in Art Education, full-time, term, non-tenure-track

Date of Appointment: August 16, 2018

Qualifications: MA in Art Education (PhD/EdD or ABD preferred). Applicant must have five years of prior teaching experience K-12 and a valid teaching credential K-12. The applicant must have evidence of a demonstrated commitment to personal research and/or creative activity as it pertains to teaching. The applicant must also have knowledge of contemporary theories in Art Education as well as contemporary art forms. Preference will be given to those applicants who have 1) evidence of strong connections with the community, both in art and teaching; 2) knowledge of State and online program assessment components used for Art Education; 3) a consistent studio practice in the fine arts; and 4) previous teaching experience at the university level.


  1. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in theory, philosophy and methods in art education, as well as additional workshops for children/families/teachers offered each semester.
  2. Assuming a partial role of coordinator for the Art Education Program, which includes advising teacher candidates in Art Education, supervising a graduate student assistant, collaborating with and attending all meetings in connection with the Teacher Education Program, writing program and assessment reports for the Illinois State Board of Education, and assisting with program budget.
  3. Ongoing professional and research/creative development in the field of art education/art as an extension of teaching.
