Description of Position: The College of Education and Human Services (COEHS), Academic Advisement office, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, invites applications for a full-time academic advisor position. The advisor will report to the Chief Academic Advisor. The advisor will collaborate with personnel in the COEHS and other units on campus with programs affiliated with the COEHS. Also, the advisor will form a close working relationship with off-campus based programs, advisors, and counselors from community colleges.

Responsibilities of the Position: The position is responsible for academic advising, counseling, and registration activities for specific program majors in the College of Education and Human Services. The positions are responsible for forming a close working relationship with units in the College. Advisors assume responsibilities for accurately maintaining all student files and records, senior checks, and graduation clearances. Further, the advisors are responsible for all complex paperwork relating to certification and additional endorsements and maintaining a database related to student advisement.

Requirements of Candidates: A completed Master's degree is required at the time of application. The position requires a minimum of two calendar years' experience in a community college or university setting. Applicants must have a documented background in teaching, counseling, or advising college students.

Preferred Qualification: Applicants with a Master's degree or Bachelor's degree earned in the College of Education and Human Services preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in academic advising. Candidates with strong computing skills including experience using database programs (e.g. Banner, CRM tools), internet and email, and those who demonstrate excellent written skills are also preferred.

Appointment: This is a 12-month, term, fiscal appointment.
