POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Instructor/Lecturer (Variable-Time) (Early Childhood Education)
Department of Curriculum and Instruction

Description of Position: The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking instructors/lecturers to teach in the Early Childhood Education Program at the SIU campus in Carbondale, IL. These are non-tenure track, term positions in the area of Early Childhood Education with particular emphasis on instruction in mathematics, literacy, social science, science, or child development for undergraduate students focused on earning a Professional Educator License.

Responsibilities of the Position:

1. Teach undergraduate courses in our educator preparation program leading to a teaching endorsement for classrooms serving children (Birth through 2nd Grade).
2. Assist in program planning, review, and evaluation for various departmental programs, especially those with accreditation needs.
3. Serve the public(s) and constituencies of the department, college, and university.
4. Attend monthly faculty meetings at the SIU Carbondale campus when they are scheduled by the EC coordinator.

Requirements of Candidates:

1. The rank of instructor requires a master’s degree with an emphasis in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or other closely related field. The rank of lecturer requires a doctorate with an emphasis in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education or other closely related field.
2. Persons who apply must demonstrate:
   1. Successful teaching experience in one or more levels (pre-K to 12th Grade classrooms).
   2. Excellent communication and time management skills.
3. Preferred qualifications:
   1. Experience as an educational leader in a P-12 school setting.
   2. Student Teacher Supervisory experience in public school classrooms.
   3. A doctorate or have completed all but the dissertation.
   4. Participated in and contributed to relevant professional organizations and societies at regional, state, and national levels.
