The College of Applied Sciences and Arts (ASA) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time academic advisor position in ASA’s School of Allied Health beginning as soon as possible. This is a term, Administrative/Professional position.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in a health discipline, education, or a related field required. At least one year of advisement related experience such as counseling, teaching, recruiting, or advising in an education setting.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of appropriate technical experience and/or academic advising experience at the community college or university level; Candidates with strong computing skills including familiarity with Argos, Student Success Collaborative Campus, Banner, SalukiNet, Degree Works, Extender, Bolt-on, internet and email; Master’s Degree plus an additional degree/credential for one of the programs within the School of Allied Health (Dental Hygiene, Health Care Management, Mortuary Science and Funeral Service, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Sciences, or Medical Dosimetry). Excellent oral and written communication skills are also preferred.


  1. Provide academic advisement to pre-majors and majors in School of Allied Health programs via student meetings and reviewing academic records to ensure students are making progress toward degree and fulfilling major requirements.
  2. The individual must understand the health delivery system, the need for specific science and other support courses, along with basic information concerning allied health programs (Dental Hygiene, Health Care Management, Mortuary Science and Funeral Service, Physical Therapist Assistant, and Radiologic Sciences).
  3. Verify registration and proper enrollment of students in Banner.
  4. Maintains student records, documents academic progress, transfer credits, deficiencies, and degree requirements.
  5. Performs graduation audits.
  6. Assists with student recruitment, attends open-houses, on and off-campus events, NSO programs, and other recruitment events as assigned.
  7. Performs selective admissions by monitoring and reviewing applicants for compliance with program criteria.
  8. Tracks new student commitments and assists with increasing applicant yield via deliberate outreach.
  9. It is also necessary to work closely with program faculty, staff, Undergraduate Admissions, the Chief academic advisor for the College of Applied Sciences and Arts, and community college advisors.
  10. This position will assist with graduate and employer follow-up studies for assessment and accreditation.
  11. Performs these duties with only general supervision from the SAH Director.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
