POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Instructor/Assistant Instructor (Variable-Time)

The College of Applied Sciences and Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for one or more Assistant Instructor or Instructor positions (variable time) within the College’s Baccalaureate Automotive Technology program. The position requires teaching undergraduate automotive industry related management, communication, and/or technical courses. The position is a term, non-tenure track appointment that begins August 16, 2017.

Required Qualifications: For appointment at rank of Instructor, must have an earned Master’s degree in automotive, engineering, technology, business, education, or closely related discipline with related industry training and/or experience. For appointment at rank of Assistant Instructor, must have an earned Baccalaureate degree in automotive, engineering, technology, business, education, or related discipline with two (2) years of documented industry related work experience and appropriate industry training/certifications for courses to be taught.

Preferred Qualifications: Earned Master’s degree in automotive, engineering, technology, business, education, or a closely related discipline with experience at the automotive wholesale/manufacturer or retail management level.

Function: This position requires teaching undergraduate automotive industry related management, communication, and/or technical courses. Successful teaching will require ability to bring industry applications and content to the classroom environment, effective interaction with students and industry, and successful utilization of modern teaching and delivery methods. Technical courses will require appropriate ASE certification, electrical knowledge, understanding of diagnostic practices, and laboratory oversight. Management and communications courses require ability to bring modern professional industry application to the classroom.
