Position: Assistant Professor (Soil Management and Integrated Cropping Systems), nine (9) month, continuing, tenure track appointment effective August 16, 2017.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in a Soil management discipline. ABD applicants will be considered if all requirements for the Ph.D. will be completed by August 15, 2017. If all requirements for the Ph.D. are not completed by August 15, 2017, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with university policy (http://policies.siu.edu/personnel-policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/conting.php). Must possess ability to incorporate soil management and practices for sustainable crop production into teaching, research and outreach programs. Experience in soil management and integrated agronomic practices with the potential for excellence in teaching are required. S/he must also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated the ability to secure research grant support and are published in peer-reviewed journals.

Responsibilities: Develop a nationally recognized, extramurally funded research program in soil management and associated integrated agronomic practices. Program objectives will include precision management and remote sensing, and environmental impact issues associated with soil management, with a focus on using site-specific soil management practices that will enhance Illinois cropping systems by improving productivity, profitability and stewardship of natural resources. Collaboration with faculty and research personnel within and outside the department is encouraged. Specific research will address issues of regional and national concern as identifiable funding sources. University and public service duties include the participation in departmental, college, and university committees. Public service activities will include the planning and participation in field days, updates on soil management issues at local, state, and regional meetings/conferences, and responding to soil management questions/inquiries. Teaching duties will include 1) graduate and undergraduate level courses in soil science with the potential for online and distance education teaching opportunities, 2) advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and 3) serve on graduate student committees.
