Position Summary: We are seeking applicants for an Associate Scientist position to fill a position funded by the United Soybean Board in Plant Genomics and Molecular Genetics. The goals of the research are to identify genes involved in plant microbe interactions using primarily reverse genetics and functional genomics approaches. Among the duties, the candidate will be developing and using a mutagenized soybean population to identify and characterize candidate genes for resistance to soybean cyst nematode infections. The research topics for the positions encompass other genetic analyses to identify genetic factors underlying plant microbe interactions, yield traits, seed composition and analyses of candidate genes for economically important traits in soybean Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate(s) will be involved in:

  1. The production of suitable soybean TILLING populations using ethylmethanesulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis.
  2. Sampling, Inventorying and archiving of DNA and seeds from the mutant lines and Identification of mutations in targets sequences
  3. Expression analysis of candidate genes
  4. Phenotyping of the identified soybean mutant lines
  5. Data collection, data analysis, preparation of reports, and manuscripts writing.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology and strong oral and written communication skills.
