The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute invites applications and nominations for the position of Institute Associate Director. This is a full time position that reports directly to the Institute Director. Position starts immediately. To learn more about the Institute, please visit paulsimoninstitute.siu.edu.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and at least three (3) years of professional work experience in a setting related to public policy, government and politics. Candidate must demonstrate excellent managerial and organizational skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills. A strong understanding of policy issues at the state and national levels is required. Position will require travel.

This is a security-sensitive position. Before any offer of employment is made, the University will conduct a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check.

Preferred qualifications: A proven ability to successfully conduct major fundraising and development campaigns and knowledge of both SIU and SIU Foundation financial processes. Non-profit and previous fundraising experience would be helpful. Proficient experience with the Microsoft Suite and other fundraising databases is preferred as well.

Duties and Expectations: The Associate Director will serve in the lead role as the Institute's Fundraiser and Development Officer. He/she will be responsible for program development and implementation, building alliances with donors and friends of the Institute, forging strategic partnerships with external groups and within SIU as well as expanding and funding internship opportunities.

The Associate Director will be responsible for maintaining contact with current donors, identifying and developing relationships with potential donors and developing a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the Institute. In collaboration with the SIU Foundation, he/she will implement this Fundraising and Development strategy. He/she will be charged with developing a donor cultivation strategy, making fundraising trips as well as handling the logistics for all fundraising events, including venue choice, coordination with entrepreneurs, and communications with donors, as well as writing grant proposals.

The Associate Director will substantially expand the Institute's online fundraising efforts, implementing state-of-the-art techniques. He/she will align the Institute's overall fundraising efforts to current Institute programs, including the Statesmanship Initiative and Rethinking Illinois Project.

Additional Responsibilities: This role will serve as back-up Delegated Fiscal Officer.
